ALLIGATOR PRESS RELEASE
ALLIGATOR RECORDS SIGNS ANDERS OSBORNE
AMERICAN PATCHWORK SCHEDULED FOR
APRIL 27, 2010 RELEASE
Alligator Records is proud to announce the signing of award-winning guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Anders Osborne. Osborne's Alligator Records debut album, American Patchwork, is a moving collection of soul-baring roots rock, blues and ballads. Many of the songs on American Patchwork deal with healing and redemption, spirituality and acceptance. Paste Magazine says, "Osborne has an impossibly great voice and the songs to match." American Patchwork will be released on April 27, 2010.
According to Alligator president Bruce Iglauer, Anders is a perfect fit for the label. "We at Alligator are very excited to have a visionary artist like Anders Osborne join our roster. Having traveled over much of the world and honed his music in New Orleans, Anders combines a deep feeling for many genres of American roots music with straight-from-the-heart, deeply soulful songwriting. His voice has the unvarnished emotional honesty that we love. As a guitarist, he's simply thrilling. He's one of America's finest roots music artists, and we're honored to have him on Alligator."
Anders Osborne is in full agreement, saying, "I am very pleased to be working with such a reputable and classic American label like Alligator Records. This record, American Patchwork, means a helluva lot to both me and the guys helping me get it done. I wouldn't hand it over to just anybody. I am proud to call Alligator Records my label."
Osborne and friend Stanton Moore (Galactic) produced the album, with co-production by Pepper Keenan (of Down). Each track is delivered with soul muscle and contains unforgettable melodies. The ten original songs on American Patchwork are among the strongest he has ever written. With musical assistance from Moore on drums, Keenan on percussion and guitar, and Robert Walter on keyboards, American Patchwork is a bright new chapter in Anders Osborne's remarkable journey. According to Osborne, "This is the healing, the patching back together, of a man scattered to the wind, broken and in pieces. The rebuilding of my home, a city under water and in ruins, friends lost, my community in disarray, all carefully patched and made whole again by the power of my America, and its endless source of inspiration to me. This is my American patchwork."
Since 1995 Osborne has released a series of successful albums for major and independent labels to wide critical and popular acclaim. His music mixes blues, soul, funk and R&B into a signature sound and style. Osborne is as well-known and well-loved for his songwriting as for his blue-eyed soul vocals and jaw-dropping guitar playing. Two songs co-written by Osborne appear on blues great Keb Mo's Grammy-winning 1999 release, Slow Down. His song What's Going On Here appeared in the 1996 feature film Fled. Osborne's compositions have been covered by artists as diverse as Brad Paisley, Tab Benoit, Jonny Lang and Kim Carnes. Country superstar Tim McGraw scored a #1 hit with Anders' song Watch The Wind Blow. Often compared to Townes Van Zandt, Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison, Osborne is an exceptional and singular talent. American Patchwork will propel Osborne to his greatest success.
Osborne was born in Sweden in 1966. His father was a professional jazz musician and, at an early age, Anders began playing guitar and discovering the musical power of the blues and the lyrical depth of songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Jackson Browne. At 16, he was traveling across Europe, North Africa, Asia and the Middle East, earning money by performing at every opportunity. His grandfather, a sailor, had often told him vivid stories of New Orleans, so when he arrived there in 1985, he felt right at home. He effortlessly incorporated the sounds of New Orleans into his own music, and the city quickly became a large part of his soul.
In April Osborne will play three times at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (and make many more area appearances during the festival period), followed by a six-week tour of the U.S. on a double bill with The Stanton Moore Trio. With a new label, a new recording, and a new appreciation of life itself, Anders Osborne is ready to move forward. As a youth he traveled the globe before settling in New Orleans. Now, as a proud American, he'll travel from New Orleans, bringing his powerful original songs and soulful, bluesy, rock-fueled music to destinations all over the world.

"Accompanied by drums and sousaphone, fiery New Orleans slide guitarist Anders Osborne has lately been performing as though his life depended on it which, as the addiction and redemption songs on his latest album suggest, may well be the case". New York's Village Voice
MERCH
In 2004 prior to the historical Louisiana Hurricanes, Anders, Tab Benoit, Cyril Neville, Dr John, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Waylon Thibodeaux, George Porter Jr, Johnny Vidacovich, and Johnny Sansone recorded a CD to warn of a major flood. 8 months (too late) later the record was released on Ryko Disc.
"Preachin the Blues" the songs of Mississippi
Fred McDowell. This compilation features Anders and other Artist paying tribute to the legendary roots man. The CD was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2004.
Anders story (his life, his career) is not unlike those of the other great songwriters and artists that he's been compared to by critics and roots purists Dylan, Guthrie, and Van Morrison, by the time he found New Orleans (or maybe it is the other way around) by taking the long way trekking through Africa and Egypt, working odd jobs to get to his next destination, he had the miles and music down to begin his career in his new home.
"Oftentimes the most true portraits of America have been rendered by those who have come from outside its borders, yet somehow seem to understand and inhabit our culture more than those of us who have lived here all our lives." JAMBASE
Anders has spent most of career since honing his songwriting at the same time creating a solid fan-base by touring the East and West coast as a performer, while dividing time between New Orleans and Nashville as a staff writer for the Universal Music and Razor and Tie publishing companies.
He's worked his magic for other performers, writing "Watchin the Wind Blow By," a number one hit for country superstar Tim McGraw and "I Was Wrong" and "A Better Man," both Grammy-winning songs from Keb' Mo's album Slow Down. Anders has written songs for Brad Paisely, Jonny Lang, Tab Benoit and Jimmy Thackery, to name a few.
"Anders Osborne artfully blends blues, rock, soul and classic R&B to create his own distinctive synthesis and original style." ALL MUSIC GUIDE
Anders hit the national scene with the 1995 release "Which Way To Here". He and his band began to tour the country and later that year he was signed to Okeh Records, which had just been revived by Sony's Michael Caplan. The record received rave reviews world wide and became Osborne's first commercial break with two top-five singles on the national charts, "Favorite Son" and "Pleasin' You." Both were featured on movie soundracks movies, the latter later recorded by Johnny Lang. Anders also recorded a second CD for the label, titled "New Madrid", which remains, unfortunately, unreleased.
Three other independent-label releases -- "Live at Tipitina's" appeared on Shanachie in 1998 followed by "Living Room" and the next year the introspective "Ash Wednesday Blues" were issued. The following year Anders emerged as producer on the two historic recordings "Bury the Hatchet," on which he and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux are double billed. Later Anders produced Monks "Mr. Stranger Man", both distributed by Shanachie Music. In 2007, MC Records released Osborne's critically acclaimed "Coming Down."
His performances have been described as equally spiritual as musical, creating the elusive connection between artist and audience. His emotive guitar complements the message and the music, enticing listeners into his heart and soul. His life is transformed via his song performances into a vehicle to take you to his destination, let you linger awhile, and bring you home a bit better than you left it to step into his world. He is able to refine and relate to the ordinary, making you feel a bit extraordinary in the process. No wonder he is in demand by perfomers of all stripes as a songwriter.
"Anders Osborne wrote the story of my life" Edwin McCain
Today Anders is finishing his new release which drops in April, followed by a two week stint of performances in conjunction with the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
Then Anders, Robert Walter, and Stanton Moore launch a six week double bill tour featuring both Osborne's band and the Stanton Moore Trio.

Wikipedia
Anders Osborne is a Grammy winning[dubious discuss] songwriter and singer.
Anders was born in 1966 in Uddevalla, Sweden, left home at age sixteen, and hitchhiked and played music throughout Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the U.S. He settled in New Orleans in 1985 and still calls Louisiana his home.
During his first decade in New Orleans, Anders lived in the French Quarter and played regularly in local clubs. After gaining a following, Anders received an independent record deal with Rabadash Records out of New Orleans, and released "Doin Fine" in 1989.
Anders and his band toured the U.S. during these years and in 1995, he was signed to Okeh Records. He released "Which Way to Here", and album that dealt with spirituality and tolerance. The record became Osbornes first commercial break with two top-five singles Favorite Son and Pleasin You. Both were featured in several Hollywood movies, and the latter was later recorded by Jonny Lang.
Shanachie Entertainment signed Osborne in 1998 and in 1999 released his fourth album, "Living Room", a very personal record that signified some new directions in Anders music after the breakup with his longtime partner Theresa Andersson, drug use, and a family death. This album also features guest appearances by Keb Mo, Kirk Joseph and Tommy Malone.
Keb' Mo's 1999 Grammy award winning album "Slow Down", featured two songs co-written with Osborne.
Since 1994, Anders has been working as a professional songwriter in Nashville, first for Polygram and now for Universal where he writes and produces for other artists.
His song, Watch the Wind Blow By, was recorded by country music star Tim McGraw, hitting No. 1 on the country charts for 2 weeks and selling over 3 million albums.

PUBLISHING COMPANY BIOGRAPHY
Born in Uddevalla, Sweden, and raised on Gotland Island in the Baltic Sea, Anders Osborne began his musical education by listening to his father, a professional pop and jazz drummer who toured the same German club circuit as the Beatles. Osborne cut his musical teeth playing drums, but soon switched to guitar. By 17, his wanderlust led him to travel across Europe and the Middle East. Eventually, he wound up in United States, where he lived for brief periods in New York, New Orleans, and California. Then it was on to Southeast Asia before a return trip to America, which led him back to New Orleans, where hes lived now for more than a decade.
My grandfather had a lot to do with me moving down here, Osborne says. He was a sailor, and when I came to New Orleans, he told me he used to live here. He started sending me all these photographs of him in New Orleans, addresses and stuff like that. I just felt connected to his memories of the place. Its in my DNA, I guess.
The city has become a big part of Osbornes sound, as well. Second-line rhythms and brass-band bass permeate his songs, but hes no dilettante. He brings as much to the table as his chosen hometown. When I first came here, I tried to fit in and be like everybody else, and I realized pretty early that this is ridiculous. I am who I am, and Im bringing something from my heritage as well. Still, theres so much great music here, that Im inspired by something I hear every day.
The fruits of his inspiration can be heard on five previous albumstwo independent releases, Doin Fine (1990) and Break the Chains (1994). Which Way To Here (1995) appeared on Sonys Okeh label. In 1998, Osborne made his Shanachie debut with the New Orleans concert recording Live at Tipitinas, which reveled in his musical debt to the city and showed off the passion present in all of Osbornes live performances. His 1999 album Living Room created a sound that acknowledged no borders as theyre usually understood, but defined its own space in the world and demanded to be heard. His release Ash Wednesday Blues (2001) continued in the tradition of previous recordings, combining elements of blues, folk and R&B. It feature contributions from Neville Brother Cyril Neville, New Orleans keyboard wizard Davell Crawford, Keb Mo and Johnny Lang.
Osborne working between the lines that separate distinct genres should come as no surprise. His musical philosophy is such that anything he can conceive is fair game. I dont look at music in categories at all, he says. I like all kinds of music, but as long as I can feel the roots, feel some sort of heart and soul, feel the connection to everything, then its real for me.
Keb' Mo's 1998 Grammy award winning album Slow Down, featured two songs co-written with Osborne. Other artists who have recorded Osborne's songs include Johnny Lang, Sam Bush and country superstar Tim McGraw. In March 2004 Anders celebrated his first number one song recorded by Tim McGraw called "Watch The Wind Blow By."
RAZOR & TIE
Since 1994, Anders has been working as a professional songwriter in New Orleans. His song, Watch the Wind Blow By, was recorded by country music star Tim McGraw and released to overwhelming success. The song reached 1 on the Country Music Charts and McGraw's album sold over 3 million copies. McGraw isn't the only artists who's recorded Osborne's songs. Artists like Keb Mo, Tab Benoit, Double Trouble, Dr John, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux have all recorded songs by Osborne and some have even garnered Grammy nods for songwriting and production.
As a solo artist, Osborne has released 7 albums. His most recent output, Coming Down, was highly received with high praise. Paste Magazine described Osborne as having cooked up an altogether tasty gumbo of soulful blues, hard-won wisdom, and that impossibly great voice, magically conjured across the space of 35 years. (Paste Magazine)
